The Window Through Which We Look

This little story was in our church bulletin for this past sunday's service.  It reminded me of my friend Callie's blog, Through Clouded Glass because it goes to show you that life is how you look at it..whether the glass it 'clear' or 'clouded'.  Read on..its a neat story.

A young couple moved into a new neighborhood.  The next morning while they were eating breakfast, the young woman saw her neighbor hanging the wash outside.  "That laundry is not very clean," she said.  "She doesn't know how to wash correctly.  Perhaps she needs better laundry soap."

Her husband looked on, but remained silent.

Every time her neighbor would hang her wash out to dry, the young woman would make the same comments.

About one month later, the woman was suprised to see a nice clean wash on the line and said to her husband: "Look, she has learned how to wash correctly.  I wonder who taught her this."

The husband said, "I got up early this morning and cleaned our windows."

And so it is with life.  What we see when watching others, depends on the windows through which we look.

How true this story is!  This story is not only to be looked at through the eyes of the woman who did the laundry (the neighbor), but also the young woman who was critical.  We can all honestly say we've been both these women at one time or another in our lives.  We've been on both sides of the fence.  It is a lesson to us as Christians that we should stop and think before we say anything negative about another person, whether we feel its hurtful or not.  If it makes you question this at all, then its better to not say anything at all.   There are people out there who are quick to 'dish it out' but can't handle any negativity, whether big or small, when it comes back their way.  I know several people like this.  We should pray that God controls our tounges more often than what we probably do (me included!), and pray the same for others.

Just goes to show you what clean windows can do for your life!

Before and After

Remember last week when I said I was ready to do something 'drastic' to my hair?  Well..on thursday I did.  I got a perm.

Yes, you read right..P-E-R-M..perm.

A loose spiral one, at that.  At first, I felt like I'd made a HUGE mistake.  I ended up washing it the next morning (less than 24 hours since it was put in) at 6am hoping to tame it down.  It helped some..and I'm glad I didnt wait the full 48 hours my hair dresser told me. I felt like Diana Ross thursday night.  With the right style products and the such, I think it looks pretty good now.

What do you guys think?

I have SO been slacking in my blogging!  Since having Makayla my time to get online is usually sparse and sporadic.  Advice needed..how do you new mommies out there find time to blog?  Seriously!  I don't want to neglect my blog (and the few readers I have)..I enjoy it too much and enjoy reading other blogs as well.

We went for a stroller walk in our neighborhood this evening.  Lovely!  The weather was GREAT..finally a break from the summer heat..and we got out to enjoy it!  Just wished I had remembered my camera... :-(

So much has changed...

Do you ever sit back and think about your life and how much has changed about it in 1, 5, or even 10 years?  I was just thinking, as we are going to head to the State Fair of WV soon, that this time last year I was in between when I had a miscarriage and when I got pregnant with Makayla.  Now I have an almost 3 month old beautiful baby girl that smiles at me daily.

So much has changed in the past year.

I think about how just last week me and Damon celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary.  Wow.  Where does the time truely go?  I can still remember when we were dating..engaged..our wedding day..our first few vacations together..just the two of us.  Now we are an 'established' couple with a baby..living in a house we own..not rent..with 2 vehicles.

So much has changed in the the past 10 years.

It was 5 years (give or take a couple) when we found our now..home church.  Before that we had been to several different churches, trying to find one that suited us..our needs..both spiritually and personally.  It can be HARD to find a good church..especially when you have 2 people involved in the process and not just 1.  We'd find one I'd like..but he wasn't real thrilled about..and vise versa.  Then...we found 'our' church.

So much has changed in those years leading up to that.

I have to say..I have no regrets.  Everything we've done in the past has led us to where we are today.  Sure, we had our struggles, and still do.  Nobody is exempt from that.  But..I have a lovely life.  A wonderful husband.  Security and peace from my Lord and Saviour.  And a BEAUTIFUL baby girl that I'd give my life for in a heartbeat.

I hope nothing about that changes.

Week in Review...

Hello all!  Yes, I'm still alive over here...its just been a busy week!  Let me review it with you so you can walk in my shoes in this past week!!

Monday ~ Had plans on buying Damon a suprise 10 year anniversary gift..a new riding lawn mower!  Everything was set in place to go and pick it up while he was sleeping (I was going to put a big bow on it and everything)..but Makayla had other plans.  Hello belly ache.  Goodbye plans for daddy.  :-(

Tuesday ~ Makayla is much better!  Me, my mom, and Makayla all went to Kentucky to visit my 86 year old grandma who hadn't gotten to see Makayla!  We had planned on going the previous week but kept having to cancel our trip due to various reasons.  Makayla did great and my grandma enjoyed getting to see her 12th great-grandbaby!

Wednesday ~ Damon and I discussed our anniversary plans and I gave in and told him of my plan to buy him a lawnmower (this wasnt a brand new idea btw..he had been looking at them for some time).  He decides after finding out when he got to work this night to take off thursday night from work since they had it posted for them to work this weekend (the 4th straight weekend he's had to work..bummer).

(Makayla in her oh-so-cute outfit!  Thanks Aunt Wendy for the sockies!!)

Thursday ~ Our 10 year anniversary!!!  We left out in the morning (and yes..Makayla came with us!)..ate out at Olive Garden (my fav!) and shopped!  He got his lawn mower purchased and I got a few nice gifts as well (roses, bible cover, camcorder, heart necklace with his birthstone)!  I love anniversaries!  Its so hard to believe we've been married 10 years..but its been the best 10 years of my life no doubt!

Friday ~ Damon and my dad went to Lowe's to pick up the mower.  Damon came home and of course, had to try it out.  Me and Makayla hung out in the house since its been SO HOT here for the past well..several months.  I did manage to catch her smiling with the camera!!  YES!

Saturday ~ Our plans are to go yard saling..I can't wait!  Hope to catch some good deals!

Whew..one heck of a week!  Think I'll go and lie down now.....
